Occupied, and there were tribes that were on that land 100 times longer than Mexico and the United States combined, and some of them are still there.

Mexico owned all or parts of the American Southwest from Mexico's Indendence from Spain in 1821 to around 1859 around the year of the Gadsden Purchase. There have been further border adjustmentments in the late 1900's.

This question is imaterial. Mexico never controlled any of the Southwest. It was controlled by Nomadic tribes for several thousand years and then came the buffalo hunters and killed their food supply. If we could have got them to eat mexicans we would not be havng this dumb-assed discussion.

No, but does it really matter? The fact that they don't own it now is what is important. The "southwest" is part of the United States of America, not Mexico.

EDIT: to "saiyan.je..." notice that I never said "who cares." I asked if it matters.
