CHILLED!
Keep it in the fridge for as long as you can. If you wrap the bottle in an insulating material (a towel, a blanket, one of those thermos bags from the grocery store) it will stay colder longer. If you're going to be outside the air should be cool enough this time of year to help keep it chilled. If you're going to be near water (a stream at a park, next to a pool, etc) then you can submerge it to keep it cool too (like beers on a fishing trip). Just make sure you keep it on a line so it doesn't float away. Serve the champagne in tall thin glasses (flute glasses) so you can catch all the bubbles in your nose. If you don't have fancy glass or crystal champagne flute you can usually find some cheap plastic ones in the grocery store.
(Incidentally, when you open the wine you don't want it to fizz up like they show in locker rooms. Keep the bottle pointed away from you and your date and remove the little cage. Then put a dishtowel over the top of the bottle and start to twist and pull the cork out. It will take some force and a little finesse. Hold the dishtowel on the neck of the bottle with one hand and twist with the other so when the cork pops off it won't fly into the distance. That's bad manners.)
Remember that nothing gets you drunk faster or gives you worse hangovers than champagne (carbonation and sugar do that) so enjoy it carefully.
Hope this helps
And have fun tonight.

Put the champagne on ice beforehand and if you're bringing it with you unrefrigerated, at least it will still have some residual cool to it. Champagne should be served chilled.

Very very cold! It helps it taste better, as well as keep carbonation. Also, it is usually served at the table in a metal wine bucket filled with 1/2 ice and 1/2 cold water, so it is readily available. Also, whatever you do, don't shoot the cork out! It can ruin the taste of the champagne! Hope this helps!

Chilled, definitely! Warm champagne is nasty and not fun to drink. And the bubbles disappear faster in warm champagne. Good luck!
