i am looking for 12" subs and powerful amp. i am new at this and i was wondering what basic things i could be looking for when buying this. I know i am looking for a amp with at least 1000 watt power and i need to know what the highest rhms levels that i should be looking at so i won't blow the speckers. If you could give me a walkthrough of what to do i would really appreciate it

you really shouldnt look for anything. you should listen to everything. just cause a woofer has a RMS under 1000 watts, doesnt mean its a bad woofer. infact most subs are under 1000 watts rms. if i were you i'd take it slow and listen to everything i could. and when i say everything i mean look at shops beyond best buy and circut city. once you find a sub, you're gonna want to look for a amp that puts out about the same RMS as the sub. it doesnt have to be exact, but the closer the better.

good luck.

For the amp, be sure it's CEA-2006 compliant. This means it's been tested and accurately produces the RMS watts stated.

For the sub, the higher the dB sensitivity and lower the Hz, the better.
