I am not looking for names of denominations, but rather names of churches (i.e First Baptist Church of Louisville). I have done searches on Google and Yahoo with no luck.

I did see that there are over 300,000 churches in this country, I just want to get a list of their names. I do not need phone numbers or addresses. I would be willing to pay a small amount for a comprehensive list, but am not interested in list services that are going to charge me $.10 a name or something like that.

This is for a project in grad school and I am just stumped. I really expected this information to be readily available.

Any help would be much appreciated.

That would be very, very difficult.

You could start by calling the Southern Baptist Assosiation (sp?), the General Conference of the United Methodist Church, the Main office of the Church of God in Cleveland TN, the main offices for the Presbyterian Churches of America, and the United States Prysbyterian Assosiation, ... and just go down the list of denominations, but that still wouldn't get you all the independant churches.

hmm...

The U.S. government has to have a list because churches get tax breaks. These are normally on a state level however. You could call the tax offices of each state and see if they could provide the information to you.

There are over 19,000 Catholic parishes in 195 dioceses in the U.S.

You can find the names of almost all of them by going to the website for each diocese: http://www.usccb.org/dioceses.shtml

Or try Parishes Online: http://www.parishesonline.com/scripts/default.asp

With love in Christ.
