I believe that humans are intelligent enough to adapt to most anything. Assuming some catastrophic event occurs, humans will probably be the last living creatures. Execpt for maybe some hardy microbes maybe, but I don't think they'll exactly replace us on the food chain.

if we continue in the same way so far, commodity and misunderstanding we won't last forever, depending the scenario of the destruction of the enviroment it will be the next age. I think the pollution of rivers, lakes and seas will be give birth to insectea age, a nuclear war may reduce life to simple forms, like bacteria or virus.

The only way we will cause a mass-human extinction is through full-scale nuclear war.
