You need to talk to companies in your area, like ask pepsi to sponsor him for his tournaments. Or any local business that could benefit as a sponsor.

The best thing he can do is start playing good quality Amateur events in the state to get experience playing under pressure. People will start taking notice of him if he is winning. He should also look at playing the qualifying events for the US Amateur (assuming you are in the US). If he gets into the top 16 of that he will gain plenty of exposure
As far as sponsorship as an amatuer goes you would be best to contact the USGA or the Royal and Ancient in Scotland to find out the rules covering that.

As far as turning pro is concerned contact the USPGA for some advice re. tour school to the PGA Tour or the Nationwide Tour. They should also be able to give give you some advice regarding sponsorship.
The one thing to keep in mind though is that being able to score 66-70 when there is no pressure and on courses that have a rating of par is a lot different to having to perform like that day in and day out on much tougher courses (Rated 3-5 above par) and under much greater pressure.

I also agree that your BF will need to enter at least and compete in some amateur tournaments. I don't think a company will sponsor someone who just stepped in their front door claiming they are a good player unless they have a solid track record first. Have him compete first and start getting ranked in the amateur circuit and then sponsors will start noticing him. Good luck.

You need to put together a good sponsorship package! make sure that you include contengency money if he places! This is very important. It benifits both parties... Start with anyone local then work your way around your circle of friends. Good luck!
