Most of us don't. I'm a Vietnam Vet and mor than proud of my service aned I have moved on with my life as well, and I do not coat my truck with stickers calling those opposed to the war - cowards. I have seen mor than my share of combat and I agree that there is nothing to like about it, however, we you and I disagree is that, if you haven't served or haven't been in combat, then you don't kow what the hell you are protesting about! I would be more impressed if it was proven combat vets that were protesting, but in All cases that percentage is almost nil compared to those that are doing the protesting! I am also no better than that American that proests, but I sure know a hellof lot more about it than they do. Try serving the country first, then do it!

you know, that's what makes America great-we can be different.
I,too am a vet-and my opinion differs from yours.does that mean I am a "lunatic".there are various reasons to be opposed to war,and yes, cowardice IS one of them.agreed, war is horrific, yet sometimes necessary for a number of reasons-you know that.
but....I must differ with you on your last statement.
we as Americans have the right to protest LEGALLY and PEACEFULLY. when that is not the case, then yes, sir, you are a better American than those people.
thanks for your service,God bless America.

I am not a vet, but I do know a few and they don't call people cowards for not wanting to go to war. The only people I see saying stuff like that is here on Y! And actually, I don't think that a lot of the people on this forum that claim to be vets that have seen 'action' really are vets. We can be anything we want here. Why would you want your children and your children's children to experience killing someone, watching your friends die, waiting everyday anxiously to see if their platoon will get hit. I can imagine it's not a pleasant feeling.

I agree as that you state but have not seen any "anti "anti-war" stickers. But then I just live in rural Colorado, buy my "Dixie Chick's" CD's at the PX on Fort Carson.
I did have a "Veterans for McCain" sticker a few years back, then one for "Kerry-Edwards" but I do not think Fort Carson is ready for a "Hillary in 08" sticker?
But I do not like the company of any veteran who goes out of his
or her way to be hostile to people who are "opposed" to whatever belief systems they have. Call them embittered veterans?
Way to many people "assume" that all veterans are right wing republicans? Tis like saying all members of PETA what to rustle my cattle. They don't do they?

What lunatics who can't give what up? I am also a Vet, I've served, fought in Iraq, been wounded, am proud, I also dislike bumper stickers AND I believe everyone has the right to protest whatever they want. But NO ONE has a right to call me a murderer, and I hope the day comes that someone has the balls to call me that to my face, but they won't because they are the cowards I'M talking about.

I understand your complaint. I am not a vet, but so often I am virtually lumped together with people I do not agree with because of the overall black-and-white perspective of categorizing people.
In every group, you have X amount of INDIVIDUALS. Each individual person has their own perspective and background for opinion.
Vets are not all alike. The same goes for people of all political parties, religions, race, color, sex, sexual orientation, occupation, age, financial status, location, etc.
Here's a star for your services. It's the least I can do.

You are wrong, you are better than those who didn't serve. I am a firm believer that every young man should serve his country, be it in the military or in an organization that helps the poor or under priveledged. I believe it makes them more mature. So hold your head high and ignore the anti-war stickers. You did your part.

and that's your right. No one said you have to believe war protestors are cowards.
As a vet who has also seen war, I also believe there's nothing to like about it. I also know that sometimes, even though it sucks, you have to do it.
Those people who do it are to be respected, those who wimper when asked if they're ready to do it, are not.

I don't think everyone sees Vets that way, but I know what you mean. You have to realize that only the most vocal people in any group will be seen and heard by the general public. All the normal vets, like you, probably far outnumber the loud and opinionated ones. But you're quieter, so nobody knows.
Here's an example... Wanna know why so many people still hate homosexuals? Because the ones depicted on TV and the ones who are vocal about their sexuality (and often freaky flamer types and proud of it) are the ones we see the most of. All but one of the gay men I know are completely normal guys.
