I heard that people cut because they're so numb emotionally and they desperately want to feel. Because to feel is to be alive. Though I have never cut myself, I have been so depressed and emotionally numb that I have definitely thought about doing it so that I could get some release so I relate.
I haven't really been depressed since I let my emotions come out it took a really long time, but when I had to let a lot of grief come out as well as a lot of anger and rage. So I think that's what you should try to do because you've probably been stuffing your feelings so much that you don't even realize it. So every day just try to do whatever you can to release something you can write or draw or talk to someone or pray or whatever way that feels good to you.
Just express yourself, and at first you're still going to feel numb, but if you keep pushing yourself everyday a flood of emotions are going to start pouring out of you, and let them. Don't judge any of them whether they are feelings of sadness or anger or loneliness or whatever because they need to come out and none of them are wrong. I think the reason why so many people stuff their feelings is because we have been raised to think that the only feeling that are acceptable are those that we consider to be good feelings like happiness or confidence or whatever, obviously people are much more than that and when we are told that certain feelings are wrong we get all out of balance so just try to get your feelings out and then work on loving yourself.

People cut because they don't have enough endorphins in their brain. Pain produces an endorphin release with has a nice numbing effect, and it is also is the brain chemical that gives a person a sense of self-esteem. Ice works for you because it causes a little frozen pain.
There are drug-free ways to elevate the endorphins. One is by diet. Eating foods that help to increase endorphins, and creating a balance. Foods high in fat increase endorphins and make you happy (“feel good” neurotransmitters.) To help keep your moods on an even keel, choose healthy fats such as fats found in olive oil, almonds and avocados.

Other ways: exercise, music, bubble baths, singing, dancing, doing things you enjoy, laughing- all the pleasant activities.
Negative ways to raise endorphins are: arguing, picking at scabs, causing yourself physical pain, eating a lot of sugar, reliving arguments or painful memories in your head.

Body piercing and tattooing are socially acceptable forms of self mutilation/modification. They're also safer. You're probably too young to get into that stuff legally though.
