You head hurts because you're creating pressure in your head, neck & chest to get to phlegm out. It's an overuse of the surrounding musculature & created pressure in your sinuses.
You need something stronger (codeine) to deal with your coughing. Your phlegm comes up any way, the cilia in your lungs brings it up. At least take it during the night, so you can have a sound sleep & build up your immune system. You also might have a sinus infection. If your doc. is treating you with antibiotics, both infections will be treated.

Could also be caused by Chiari Malformation. It's a defect in the shape of your skull. Causes pressure build up and you can get headaches with any straining or valsalva maneuvers such as coughing, sneezing, laughing, etc.

It'll get better by itself...
Drink tea and lots of water.
If you really need to cough but your head hurts like **** then bend down not too far down it gives less pressure and it really works bitches try it....

I had this problem for awhile; however, it went away on its own. My head hurt whenever I bent over, coughed, sneeze and even when I laughed. I had this problem for almost three months but thankfully it went away on its own.

oh tht happens to me as well, but dont wry, it will stop soon, its mostly because of the cold weather, the cold gets to the head, making it hurt alot, especially when we cough, sneeze, tec..i had the EXACT same problem as u and i knw it is just not toleratable, just tie a cloth around ur head really tight, it helps somewhat in getting rid of the pain

You may have brain turmor as other people say.
But when you cough you're head hurts because it gives signals that you're about to cough and hurts or the bacteria you cough may go and float along with you're brain. And I probaly don't think it's a good idea to hold you're head. You might need to go and have a nice sleep because you may be tired. Have a good rest!
Hope you feel better soon!
