As a new Mormon, I can spout off all the reasons NOT to drink sweet tea...
1. Caffeine...Naturally occurring or otherwise, it's still a drug. Period.
2. Sugar...especially refined sugar, is nothing but empty calories that put your body into a constant hyper state (ie sugar rush).
3. It's filling your stomach's volume with useless chemicals that your system has to filter through, which is hard on kidneys, etc.
BUT...I also know how delicious and satisfying a cold glass of sweet tea can be. After all, I grew up with the stuff. Here are some suggestions to curtail the negatives, but still allow the freedom to drink it...
1. Drink decaffeinated GREEN tea...The caffeine is greatly reduced, and the antioxidents are very helpful in reducing free radicals. (It's cheaper, too...use a 12-cup coffee maker to heat a full pot of water. Put in 5 tea bags and let steep for five minutes. Dunk bags to stir and remove. Add that to one pot (1/2 gal) ice water. Sweeten and stir. Makes one gallon.)
2. Choose a different sweetener...Splenda or honey provides sweetness that is either natural or low calorie. Refined white sugar is the WORST choice.
I hope this helps. But even if he doesn't change a thing, just remember two things; he could be drinking something a LOT worse than tea, and, more importantly, as parents we are to guide our children to the best of our ability, but it's ultimately up to them what they decide to do. Good Luck!!

Tea with sugar will have an affect on teeth, dentists are very expensive.
Be sure to drink 64 ounces (1/2 gallon) of plain water also and this will help with the kidneys.
There is not enough information to give a precise recommendation about how much tea to drink per day. Some studies have shown benefits at one cup per day, while other benefits don't occur until ten cups per day. It will take a lot more research to answer these questions with precision. But almost everyone can add a few cups of tea a day without concern.
White tea has the most antioxidants. Republic of Tea is a great source.

If it has a lot of suguar than it is extremely unhealthy!
But, i love ice tea especially the one from starbucks but i keep my sweetened tea to like 1-2 a week.
You probably have nothing to worry about.

If it is sweetened, especially by high-fructose corn syrup, that would be a problem.
If it is all-natural tea, unsweetned or with sugar, or even artificially sweetened, then that's probably ok. There are known benefits to tea-drinking.

There is probably the caffeine problem, but otherwise, iced tea isn't too bad! It has more nutrients and fewer calories than pop.
