I have had this bed (see link below) and would like to paint it. It has the description of the wood. I know nothing about wood and painting. Would I use a finish? If it's not worth it or it would look funny, I'm just going to buy a different headboard. Thanks!

sand well to remove any varnish that may be present. use a tack cloth to remove all dust/debris from sanding. use a primer and let dry completely. if you're going for a darker color, use a darker primer. lighter color, white is fine. try using a foam brush so you don't get the lines a regular paint brush will leave. you can even use a small roller, and then smooth it out with the foam brush. good luck!

p.s. if you want to stain it a different color, sand, remove debris, and restain, then polyurathane, 2-3 coats.

The picture looked like it was finished already. If it is, you'd have to strip the old finish off if you wanted to stain (then varnish) it. If you want to paint it, you should be able to just sand it some then wipe off w/ tack cloth then paint.
