I am archiving my family photos and when pulling them out of those old sticky page albums a lot of the Poloroids are coming apart. Also, many Poloroids are faded looking and I'm not sure if they were that way to begin with or time took it's toll. Do I have to reprint these on better paper to preserve them over time and can I just use the fronts or do those need preserving on better paper too?

Eventually yes. Especially if left out in light. Any picture you want to keep you should get printed out on photo paper and also saved digitally.

I think the problem is in the storage of the photos. Those sticky page albums are one of the worst ways to store photos. If it's the type with the plastic that goes across it, it is the worst. Remove all pictures from those albums, scan them to digital images, use an imaging program to fix the color and any flaws, and print them out for display. Then put the originals in acid-free photo sleeves. You can buy them at a good camera store.

I have a 40+ year old Poloroid on my 360 site. It is a clear today as it was when it was taken.

If the photo is left in the sun or bright light it will fade faster. Heat will also affect it. Most important is the orginal chemical "fixer" had to be applied properly.

I would do a digital scan at 600dpi.

Good Luck...
