Hi!
I too have an anxiety disorder characterized by uncontrollable obsessive thinking. When I was young I tried lots and lots of psychotherapy. A total waste of time and money, for me anyway. About 15 years ago a new type of pharmaceutical drug became available -- serotonin reuptake inhibitors. Their brand names are Prozac, Paxil, and Zoloft. These drugs increase the average level of the neurotransmitter serotonin in your brain. Paxil works best for me and helps with anger management issues, too. These drugs don't make you high, or stupid, or slow, but they're very slow acting. You should try one for two weeks or so, before you evaluate its subtle effect on your mind. When I think of all the time and money I wasted on Shrinks I'm deeply embarrassed. Just visit your family doctor and ask for a small amount. He may even have some free samples you can use to test on yourself. He can help you decide which brand works best for you. After two weeks, one of two alternatives will be obvious:
1) Nothing happened -- you're still the same as before. This means your brain already has enough serotonin. Low serotonin is not your problem. Go find a good Shrink.
2) You're feeling a lot better -- life is good -- you're in control. This means low serotonin is/was your problem. You should try the other brands and find the one that's best for you. Take the money you would've pissed away on psychotherapy and buy yourself a new car!
Nothing's perfect. Using any of these drugs long term (for the rest of your life) has some side effects. That's what Viagra is for. If you're like me, it's a small price to pay for regaining control of your mind.
O.K. That's the very best answer I can give. Good Luck!

In some cases medication is helpful to take the edge of panic attacks. However it is very important to educate yourself on the on the causes of this disorder. Some excellent books are 1. Claire Weakes (Learning to Live with Nerves) or Lucinda Bassette (Panic to Power) or Eckart Tolle (The Power of Know). Basically your panic is a result of your built in Fight or Flight response back from the caveman days. Your mind and body are in a state of exhaustion and your adrenaline is on high alert constantly with creates the glooming feeling is constant fear. Once in this state your new main thought process in directed to what if thinking. what if it comes back or omg here it is again, what wrong with me, I am going to go crazy etc. It is this new thought process that keeps feeding your episodes. Your are now as they In Fear of Feeling Fear. Here is the good news though they are only thoughts and NOBODY have ever died from a panic and as Terrible as they are will not physically hard you. When dealing with this please remember that it took you a long time for your mind and body to get to this point and it will take time to recover. By the way there are several studies if you google it stating that regular exercise has been just as effective if not more so that ANY medication of the market. Good Luck. With much respect. I know personally how difficult this can be.

i'm also a very anxious kind of a person..usually what i do is, i never allow my anxiety to prop up. i read some good comics or fiction or watch some good movies.... they make us forget our worries. the problems of the heroes become ours and in most of the movies the problems are atlast solved..so it makes us feel as if our problem too is settled....
if it is a more serious matter with you, try doing yoga and meditation and better seek medical help..

I haven't had this problem, but I have been pretty stressed out at times. A doctor recommended doing yoga. I actually enjoyed it a lot and maybe it can help you too.
Good luck with everything!

I myself use to suffer from this every now and then I still have trouble driving.Sometimes the attacks hit me then.
But the one thing that helped me most was to read the book From Panic To Power by Lucinda Bassett.
That book shows you how to control yourself without medications it saved me.
