Lincoln is a very beautiful city. It's earliest orgins are traced to the remains of the Iron age dated to 1st Century BC, built by a deep pool, the modern Brayford Pool in the River Witham. At the foot of a large hill on which the Normans later built the Cathedral and Castle. So it oozes history, and has it's own University of Lincolnshire built in 1996. There is a Christmas market each year lasting 3/4 days in the bailgate area and in the castle grounds. There are many more attractions in or around Lincoln to see.

If you want history then Oxford and Cambridge of course, Lincoln, York and Chester are also very histiric and have beautiful archtecture. Glasgow and Edinburgh are both fantastic, as is Liverpool. But if you want to visit the greenest city, and the one with the most spectacular scenery on its borders then you can't do any better than my own city of Sheffield. Don't let the preconceptions of grime and smoke mislead you. Its a vibrant, young city with galleries, museums and a thriving creative quarter.

Chichester is great, nice and friendly. Bath is good and compact. Oxford and Cambridge are OK, if you don't mind the students. Lincoln is grand. Canterbury is beautiful. Exeter has some positives. And the list could go on.
Numerous cities in the Uk are beautiful, however there are a great many that need a good clean up!!

Bath's "nice", but gets a bit samey after a couple of hours - there's only so much "georgian splendour" I can stomach, personally. I'd check out Liverpool , Newcastle, Edinburgh, Bristol (maybe - I live here!), and definitely Glasgow. If you like a "normal" city that's not up itself at all, was the birthplace of Charles Rennie Mackintosh and still has a mass of his work available to see, but that still is vibrant and cool, then go to Glasgow (and no, I'm not Scottish, I just love the place!)

Bath is beautiful...
And Bournemouth/Poole... the city isn't AS nice... but the beaches are great.. and the homes on the beachfront are some of the most expensive in the world. And poole harbour is pretty nice as welll..
And you should go to north devon beaches... in the Woolacombe area...
the south/southwest is the best of england i think.

City of York, because it features buildings from all periods + has:
- An ancient defensive wall, first built and evolved into it's current form through Viking, Roman + Medieval times
- A Navigable river running through it....... and in certain places, like along Fossgate where the River Foss joins the River Ouse you can see fish swimming when the water is clear enough
- York Minster, one of the largest churches in Northern Europe
- Surrounded by the Yorkshire Countryside, best viewed (I reckon) by a 2hr trip on the Yorkshire Coastliner Bus service to my home town of Whitby......... the trip goes through villages, such as "Thornton-le-Dale" (guaranteed to make your jaw dropped) + also the village of "Goathland", which contains the Railway station (part of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway) which was used as "Hogsmeade Station" in the first 2 "HARRY POTTER" movies

You could do worse than to visit Canterbury. A fine city, ideal for walking around with good shops and restaurants and a magnificent cathederal. Highly recommended.
