*laughs* This is really gross. No wonder the spinach had ecoli in September. I have seen illegals in the restrooms, I don't know if I have ever seen them wash their hands after exiting a stall. This explains alot to me, I wondered why there was soiled toilet paper in the wastebasket in many public restrooms I went to over the years. I had no idea that this was attributed to the illegals. *shudders* Learn something new everyday.

Well, yes I have seen this too. Guessed the pooper plumbing couldn't handle cheap TP that does not break down in water. Plus, many save $$$ by not using TP but rather "any old thang" they can swipe with.
I wonder why they throw disposable baby diapers out in the middle of the public streets. This is a regular occurrance in Hispanic communities. Got an answer for that one?
Maybe if they came here legally, they would cover the answers to these questions in the by laws legal immigrants are obligated to pass muster on.

It is so funny, you mentioned this. Up until very recently I was unaware of this custom. Let me tell you a story:
I handle HR in a manufacturing facility. We had 2 brothers who came form Mexico to work. They apparently had issues w/ flushing the TP in the break room bathroom and requested a box be put in the bathroom for them to put their soiled TP into rather than flush the TP.
I had to explain to them, that not only would there be no box put in the bathroom for their TP but that any soiled TP left in the bathroom floor, trash can.etc is unsanitory creating an unhealthy environment for the rest of our employees.
I actually had to type a company policy regarding toilet paper disposal and subseuqently issue these boys warning notices for failure to dispose of their TP in a sanitary manner. Oh, the best part, I had to find somebody to translate these documents into Spanish because these guys didn't think learning English was important either.
I actually had to ask a Hispanic friend of mine to explain to me what the deal with TP was.
I cannot imagine the type of filth, they were accustomed to living in, but the really sad thing is that they intended to expose everyone else to that kind of filth.

I'm not sure of the other countries, but I lived with a family from Guatemala for a year. They flushed their tp. Perhaps it's some and not others.

Unfortunately most of Mexico has 18th century plumbing & sewage systems. Many only have simple septic systems & their plumbing can't handle toilet paper.
When they come to America, modern plumbing is one of the first things they have to master.
At my old job we had to post signs in Spanish to tell the employees NOT to put their used toilet paper in the trash but to flush it... it was nasty.
I have a friend who is an IT administrator in a major city's public health care hospital & he tells me every week he sees recent (illegal) immigrants from Mexico & southwards watching the escalators & elevators because they have never seen one nor do they know how to use one.
Tavito's mom - I am a 6th generation Texan & am often in S. Texas. The situation you mention is mainly in the colonias not mainstream cities and towns. Most of the citizens of the colonias are illegal aliens or are only recently naturalized citizens.

its not just Latinos..or a cultural difference..Its plain stupid!
Humans learned along time ago that waste attract flys and smells bad....not to mention the fact that people get sick from the germs and pathogens (disease producing germs) that are in human waste...
So whats he problem??if you buy a product like TP then they should be required to insure that it is not turned into a hazard for others .....Those unable to comprehend usage of things, products, should learn!!!
When overseas on a trip I I once visited the beach (south china sea) and was amazed to see solid wast and TP floating and piling up on the sand.... saw same disgusting sight at the Rio Grand ...life is full of wonders no?

The vast majority of the world does not have the same water and sewer capacity we have in the US. You literally cannot flush TP because your toilet would always be clogged. It's good that you are getting out and learning about other cultures.

The reason I have been given is the pipes used in the plumming in mexico[for example] is to small for tissue p. to pass through. I work with mostly mexicans, they do this on a regular basis, despite the management putting up signs in the restroom explaining its OK to flush in AMERICA, still I have to see crap paper everyday. Nasty,I bet I spray a can of lysol every three days. This habit is sickning and disrespectful to our culture. If they haven't understood after 9 years,it's ok to flush, then they just do it to piss off people.

Their plumbing is small and ancient.
They are taught from childhood NEVER to flush the paper.
The habit forms over the years.
It's just a cultural difference.

I'm from South Texas, and as far as i know, no one here flushes their TP. I'm surprised that you think that not flushing it is weird....what do you want a trash can in the RR for, if you're flushing the TP?
Everywhere you go, there are trash cans so that you can put the TP there. Everything from stores, to restaurants. It's not that the plumbing can't handle it, that's just the way it is.
And it's everyone, even people (like me) who are from here. Not an immigration issue at all.
