Hi,
Well first things first, you should be using an exfoliator at least once a week. I recommend the Microfine Refinisher from MAC. Exfoliating will help get rid of any dry skin cells causing new, fresh skin to show on your face (getting rid of dry patches).

You should also be using a facial moisturizer AT LEAST once a day, if not twice. I use one by The Body Shop, but know that sometimes it will take going through a couple of different brands until you really find which works best for you. Most moisturizers vary for light, dry, or very dry skin. Use your own discretion. Remember to use a moisturizer that is made for your face, not for your body.

I used to work for MAC and we have a product called Everyday Lotion Cleanser. It's a regular facial cleanser with more of a lotion-like feel to it, made especially for dry skin. I've also heard of people using Cetaphil & Phisoderm.

MAC products are hypoallergenic and people with sensitive skin often use our product.

Hope this helps!

You have the same problem as me. You have sensitive skin and are allergic or intollerant to Simple products .... which is surprisingly quite common. If your skin is too dry it can get pimply so you need to find a good hydrating moisturiser that you are not allergic to. I am using a calming cream from Boots Botanics which has mallow in it. It's about £6.99 for a small tub and it seems to be helping me. Also avoid a cleanser that is too drying. You can get at a good pharmacist a mixture of wax and water very cheaply. It cleanses and it doesnt dry - a big bottle costs about £3 - £5 - ask at the counter for it. Drink plenty of water. Patience is essential by do try to rehydrate your skin and hopefully it will all balance out

I get the same sort of problem, especially in the winter when the wind is harsh and the air inside is dry. I have skin that is both dry and oily at the same time, so even when my skin is flaking and feels tight, I have a lot of shine and periodic breakouts. I've found that acne medication just makes it worse for me because it dries out my skin further, leading to irritation and blocked pores. I wash with plain water and a soft facecloth every morning and night, and occasionally use Dove face wipes for sensitive skin. I also use Dove lotion for sensitive skin. I've tried other products, but these seem to be working best so far. Experiment with some different brands, and make sure what you're using is for sensitive skin so you run less chance of irritating your skin. Make sure to use a light moisturizer, even though this may seem contrary to logic when you want to dry up acne. And remember to drink lots of water.

PROACTIVE doesn't work miracles, per se, but as long as you're willing to work the routine, it does do a good job. My only warning about proactive would be that during the beginning week or so, you may see an increase in acne or bumps on your cheeks... I was told this was simply a reaction to the strength of the chemical in proactive (which will happily bleach your favorite towel or sheets if you're not careful) which will clear up by the end of the second week as your skin gets used to it.

Keeping your skin clean and free of bacteria is obviously still important, and the above remedies provide a viable means of
cleansing and fighting the dirt and particles that clog your pores and lead to breakouts. For best results, check this site for a detailed natural remedy better than proactive:

Use a mild exfoliator to get rid of the dead skin. Use a non comedogenic (does not cause pimples) moisturizer. You could try proactiv, but the repairing lotion component might be too much for you.
I have the same problem. I use an acne wash with benzoyl peroxide, a toner, antibiotic topical solution and moisturizer. Proactiv makes my skin too dry now.
If you are having a really hard time you may want to go to a dermatologist.
Check those face wipes as to what is in them. They may be clogging your skin if they have oils in them.

Try and wean yourself off chemical based skin care of any kind. Consider using only certified organic skin care -- products made from only natural ingredients.

One great moisturising product is the Body Cream by miessence useable all over but perhaps worthwhile considering for face is one of their skin-type based moisturizing products.

Too many off the shelf products contain chemicals that can actually have an opposite effect on sensitive skins than what you are trying to acheive. Using the organic and nourishing Body Wash from the miessence range should not dry your skin in the first place.

You can check out more details about the products -- and more importantly read more about why you should avoid some chemically produced products -- facial wipes for instance often contain a chemical cocktail that can be pretty harsh on your skin:

I have the same problem, or should I say HAD. I used to try this and that but I found that a simple face wash works best. St. Ives Apricot scrub...gets rid of the dead skin and cleans up the acne. :) Use twice a day and you should see good results. If you still have dry skin, use a little facial lotion and try to avoid your break out areas.

I have the same thing. You put mosituriser on the dry bits then you get oily skin and pimples!
I use St Ives scrub (for sensitve skin) every night around my nose and other oily bits. I don't use the scrub on the drier parts of my face. Then in the morning, moisturise, with Nivea for dry skin. Seems to work for me. Occasionally when it dosen't work, say my face is really dry. I put loads of moisturiser on, then use pressed powder (can get it from Boots) to take the incredible shine off my face!
