I'm trying to decide what kind of cat to get. So i'm wondering if anyone would know what websites that I can go to, to view pictures of different breeds of cats?

Keep in mind that appearance isn't the only thing you'll want to consider in choosing a cat. Different breeds of cats also tend to have different types of personalities. Persians tend to be laid-back, Siamese tend to be talkative, Bengals tend to be extremely active, etc.

If you want to get a purebred cat, go to a reputable breeder - never buy a purebred kitten from a pet store.

Sometimes you can find a great purebred cat from a local breed rescue - contact a local vet for breed rescue contacts in your area.

Shelters are a good source for loving cats - you can find all sorts of cats at shelters - cats who have great personalities and a lovely appearance, but who were abandoned or given up when the owner moved or became allergic. If you want a kitten, you can find adorable ones at shelters too.

Anywhere, we got one of ours from a family giving kittens away on the side of the road. She is so sweet and never has gotten really big. Actually, she is the clown of the 3 I have. One of my boys has blue eyes and my sons says when he passes we could make a fur coat out of him. I got him from a rescue shelter and it has taken him about a year to get to where he trusts us. So, if you go to a shelter and get a 1 year or older Cat as oppossed to a kitten keep that in mind. Our number 2 boy cat just appeared on my door step one day and has stayed. I believe he is pretty old because he isn't very playful and sleeps a lot. Either way whether you purchase, pick up or open your front door. The ones that are right for you is the one that picks you out not the one that you pick out. Also, when choosing a cat or kitten make sure you check them out..you don't want one whose eyes are running, is sneezing, or is oozing from any orafices at all. Those cats are sick and if you go to a shelter be specially careful you won't see the sick ones they just pulled from the rest of the cats so you may get a sick one without even knowing it. Be sure to spay or neuter whatever you get and make sure if you want a male cat in your house you neuter him before he starts to spray or you will have an outside cat instead of an inside cat.

the best place to go to get a cat would be at an animal shelter. Breed shouldn't matter when getting a cat really all that matters is that they would get along with you and by adopting a cat from an animal shelter you are really just saving a cat's life.

You should try going to CatChannel.com It has breed profiles and some really useful information. Also, KittenCare.com has some cool information on caring for your cat, so you might want to check that out. There are also some really good books out there, such as The Encyclopedia of the Cat, which also has breed profiles. Good luck!

really the best place to go is a shelter. breeds are not as important as personality which is more evident when you get to know a cat at a shelter. plus its saving a life. please don't make the same mistake that thousands of pp do by picking a cat based on breed thinking it will act a certain way and be disapointed when it doesn't. either way good luck.

Hey... I just adopted two kittens from a cat rescuer. I would suggest trying to find black cats from shelters or rescuers. Black cats are the least adopted cats from all shelters, and most of them get killed or used in experiments since nobody wants them. The two kittens I just got are brothers, and one is completely black and one is black and white. They are the cutest, sweetest kittens ever! Just remember that most other kittens will get adopted way easier then black cats, and they are just as sweet as the others. I put an add on Craigslist and actually had a person call me and give me number of cat rescuer. Good luck!

Best type of cat to get - a homeless one that's going to be put down. Go to your shelter and forget about breeds. Your getting a cat to love it and for it to love you - make your choice based on love not vanity.

Hey Mandy Jo - what a great and thoughtful answer!

It really depends on your living situation. Are you looking for and indoor or outdoor cat? How big is your home? How often will you be around? I generally would recommend a Manx cat. They are "people cats" and love human contact, but you have to have some time to spend with them or they get sad. Mane Coon is also a good cat, very calm but they are outdoors type cats and need a bit of room to play and run and such. Good luck with your kitty search.
