They can, but whether they will is another matter. No doubt they will try. But it's hard enough to enforce in the UK, even if you have judgment so trying to enforce abroad is even worse. The larger the debt the more effort they are likely to make to enforce it. However do you want to start you new life with that stress. Have you considered speaking to them and asking for a settlement figure. Tell them what you can afford, they might be prepared to accept it on the basis that something is better than nothing.
