This is the exception to the ban of eating pork. If it is a choice between eating pork and dying, Allah will forgive you for the transgression, but ONLY if there was a choice between death and sustenance.

Eating pork for a Muslims is only as a last resort after no other food or anything edible is able at that point of time. If U are still able to find other edible thing other than pork at the vicinity, U are still forbidden from eating pork. As according to your question, since it is on an island, the surrounding of the Island is a sea, as such, there are still food in the sea which U could eat instead of eating pork.

Islam is about conserving the human life, if it was the only thing available, and it was vital for survival, then eating pork would be permitted.

It is perfectly permissible to eat pork if there is nothing else available and your life depends upon it. There is no problem at all. Everything in Islam has its perfect reason and everything is made as easy as possible.
