Smoking in virtually all enclosed public places and workplaces is to be prohibited by law throughout the United Kingdom.

The smokefree law forms part of the Health Act 2006. Implementation of the law varies for each country as follows:
Wales 2 April 2007
Northern Ireland 30 April 2007
England 1 July 2007
(Scotland’s ban on smoking in public places came into force on 26 March 2006).

Me!

I've set my date for 1st June!

I would have started sooner but the doc said I can't stop smoking and lose weight at the same time. (I'm currently doing a 'sponsored weight loss' programme in aid of Children in Need).

So by July, I will be a non-smoker!

Well one good thing about this smoking ban is that the air pollution will finally be credited for killing all those people..... As it is now it is blamed on smokers.

People will have to start looking at how much pollution contributes to the health problems of today......

I also know here in America people will scream when there is a tax hike for all those things smokers pay for with the cigarettes tax, schools, emergency services these come to mind right away....no smokers, these services still need to be paid by someone.....

Some will. Many more will stand outside in the cold and rain and smoke anyway. Smoking is an addiction, and many feel powerless to quit.

I'd recommend QuitNet,com to anyone who needs support for quitting. Best tool there is, as far as I'm concerned. As well as the patch or the lozenge or the nic gum, of course.

The banned smoking in NJ last April...once the cold hit I stopped smoking in December. By that point I felt like it was pointless to stand in the cold for nothing.

About 10%...our jackass state governor is trying to tripple the cigarette taxes here in TN. Why should we be punished just for have an addiction. We have not had any ban on public smoking yet though

In Scotland it didn't make much difference it just meant there was less people going to pubs and restaurants, and a lot of them are closing down.

I wont be stopping smoking although i will not be going out as much, my friends and i have already planned to party in each others houses, it works out cheaper than pubs and clubs anyway and we can smoke as much as we like.
