I ask people to stop clicking & popping their gum, & they refuse. & then they tell their friends, "I GOTTA pop my gum!" I hate that habit. It's rude, disgusting, & hurts my ears.

Find something they don't like and do that. SHOW them how obnoxious the habit is.

It's gross: I don't want to know what's going on in someone else's mouth! It's also uncouth and disrespectful.
Once, I was taking a continuing ed class, and there was so much of it going on from these educated adults that I actually asked the class for a moratorium on gum popping! They laughed and stopped. Fortunately, they didn't turn on me.
I shouldn't have had to ask.

For some unknown reason, some people feel that they need to pop their gum, groom themselves, scratch themselves, and a myriad of other things that are rude and uncultured. I think that they are oblivious to anyone but themselves.
I guess it is the way that they were brought up.

I think it's annoying. I'll admit, I'm guilty of doing it myself, but only when I'm by myself. That, and the sound it makes when someone bites their nails skeevs me.
