Yes, it is bad to drink when taking Effexor!
Effexor's broad spectrum use of liver enzymes probably interferes with alcohol clearance and tolerance, thus leading to the type of alcoholism that affects people without the proper enzymes to effectively metabolize alcohol. Between that and the way Effexor works your liver, you're probably better off giving up booze entirely if you're taking this med. Alcohol intolerance and/or alcohol abuse is a serious problem with this drug because it destroys your liver.

YES it is REALLY bad. My soon to be ex husband is on Effexor and drinks like a fish. Alcohol is an anti depressant as is the Efexxor. It does not mix at all. The two together turned him violent. It says right on the bottle do not drink alcohol while taking this medication.

Not at all. I was on Effexor before and I used to drink alot more than a glass of wine and I was always fine. It's not a drug that is like a xanax where you feel it and then it wears off. It stays in your system for weeks after you stop if you've been taking it regularly and it take a couple of weeks to work from when you start taking it every day. I say drink away - every drug warns you not to drink to cover their asses just in case.
