well that depends, what happened, what lead up to the incident and did the slap cause injuries, if so what kind and how severe.

Need more info on this to answers this correctly

honestly, it probably will not amount to anything unless there is a history of abuse and or alcohol involved or if there is serious injury. If you just got slapped because you were disrespectful or used bad language, you probably do not have a case here. If you do push this......you could be opening a bag of worms that you did not intend to open. Think carefully and give yourself an opportunity to cool down before starting anything.

Parents may use force to discipline a child, within reason. So is a slap reasonable? Factors: age of child, action that prompted the slap, words used at the time it happened. Probably most important is the age of the child. I could see this being reasonable for an unruly teen; that does not mean it's socially acceptable, just that it isn't illegal.
For an infant, NO, this would be unreasonable act of discipline and most likely deemed illegal.
This is the law in NC. I have tried child abuse cases, and it really comes down to whether the action was within reason as an act of parental authority.

Some of these people on here don't know what they are talking about! If he hit her so hard that he knocked her to the ground or if there was alcohol involved & it resulted in serious injury then yes it is against the law. But if the daughter was smarting off & he just smacked her across the face to discipline her then no! When I was little & I smarted off to my parents then they would slap me across the face. Its called discipline people! Not child abuse! Thats why kids act the way they do these days because they arent disciplined the right way!

Probably but I don't feel it should be. (when not in in excess). I've heard the way a lot of kids talk to their parents and I want to go slap them across their face. I don't believe in beating and bruising a child. I believe there is a difference in a smack, on the face or butt, and child abuse. My parents would give my brothers and me 3 licks with a belt(on the butt). It didn't happen often but when it did I had deserved it. It got my attention and made me think twice about doing something I knew was wrong. I also had to put a bar of soap in my mouth (which would gag me) for lying. I don't think they were trying to poison me. "time out" is for the birds.

It is wrong to slap anyone on the face, against the Law It would all depend. A parent has the right to give cor pal punishment but not the right to beat. Maybe you need to examine why Dad got provoked enough to slap you on the face. Did you talk back or disrespect him in any way? Sometimes parents choose the wrong ways to discipline especially when provoked.

No it isn't right to do this sort of thing, but sometimes you gotta do it to a daughter to get her damned attention focused on life instead of her horny boyfriends.

I have a 25 year old daughter i've considered slapping accross the face numerous times this week, after learning she's hooked up with another drug addict, drug dealing convicted felon.

This is the 2nd one in her life, the first was this jerks older brother.

Sometimes parents get so frustrated, and I do not know why your father, slapped you, but this may be the only way he could get your attention, to make you not to do, what ever you did. Your parents only want the best for you. So work on trying to be a better child, and doing the right things, so you won:t make your father mad!

Sorry to bust everyones bubble, but in NYS it is not Child abuse. As long as your parent hits you with and open hand (another words they dont punch you) then the child/school/athorty can not do anything about it. I know cuz i had the same thing happen to me, and my bff's uncle is a Sherriff! and it states in their handbook:

A PARENT OR GARDIAN OF A CHILD UNDER THE AGE OF 18 CAN HIT THE CHILD WITH AN OPEN HAND AS LONG AS THE PARENT OR GARDIAN IS DOING SO BECAUSE THE CHILD IS BEING PUNNISHED!

maybe not in thoes exact words but pretty much the same thing as what i just wrote! i hope this helps you or whoever!

It is technically illegal. But all the circumstances leading up to it have to be considered. A neighbor saw me shove my 17 year old daughter into our front yard and called the police. She went to jail for domestic violence on me, because she admitted to hitting, kicking and pushing me before I shoved her in self defense.
