The symbols of baptism are water, a white garment, oil and fire.
WATER: Water, which both gives and takes life, represents life and death.
WHITE GARMENT: The garment, donned after baptism, is a sign of Christian dignity and purity.
OIL: The oil used at baptism is the chrism consecrated by the bishop during Holy Week. We are anointed with it to bring the good news to others in the way we live.
CANDLE: The light of Christ is passed on to us in the candle, lit from the paschal candle that was blessed at the Easter vigil.
God Bless You

-oil:
As has been said, the oil is a symbol of annointing, it seals us into the mystical Body of Christ. The Oil used in baptism is blessed by the bishop.
-light
We are called, as Christians, to be light to the world. Upon baptism, the candle is lit to symbolize our acceptance of Christ's light, and our willingness to hold that light aloft and give it to others.
-white garment
Baptism is the cleansing of sins, washing us clean. As such, the change into the clean white garment shows that we have been made pure in the eyes of God.
-water
Water, as has been said, is a symbol for washing. It has two other important symbolisms as well: Being submerged is a symbol for death, and baptism itself is a death to the world of sin. Furthermore, water is a symbol (in literature) of growth, and being submerged the water symbolizes the water of the womb, where we are contained during prior to our birth, as we enter the water, our body and soul dies to the world, and as we emerge from the water the body and soul are reborn into a world of God.
