We live in America where you can get almost anything you want 24/7. Perhaps this is the reason why we are so frustrated with this war because it is not the quick fix we are used to.

Some are saying bring the troops home. I've asked military personel how they feel about this and they want our support. They want to do their jobs. They say that the enemy laughs at us when they hear reports from the US about withdrawing troops. WHo do you believe, an actual soldier in Iraq or a politician with an agenda?

Of course, there is always the question, if we leave now, will the enemy follow us home? Maybe, maybe not but why should we risk potentially fighting a war on our own soil?

We are not at war with Iraq, we are there to help them as they are an important ally to us. We are at war with an enemy who wants to destroy Iraq's weak infrastructure which will have a negative effect throughout the world. Shouldn't we support our troops effort to help the world?

Rick, there you go, blasting Bush...you are nothing more than a bamboozled follower of the hate-Bush crowd. I was talking about putting partisanship aside and supporting troops. I guess you can't get past your hatred to do that. Thanks for your answer; it tells a lot about you.

To middleclass, the cut and paste lady, you forgot to paste this excerpt from your atricle:

“Whatever the percentages are, I know 100 percent of our troops want to complete their mission over there,” he said. “My view is, whatever the poll results say, the bottom line is these are troops who will continue their mission, because they would rather fight the enemy overseas than at home.”

thank you!

honestly, it's the support of the people that makes us proud to wake up and work every single day. without people like you, what exactly WOULD we be fighting for. living in the u.s. and then going to iraq and seeing how it is over there really wakes a person up. honestly, it's a hell hole over there. we support honor and courage and pride. we take orders from those that are appointed over us and we perform them to the best of our abilities. when we're out ther in the middle of enemy fire, nothing else matters but the brother and sister beside you. what encourages us to wake up the morning and do it all over again is the hope of getting they day over with alive and without casualty, knowing that it'll be one less day until we come home to loved ones, and the undying believe that life is NOT being lost in vain.

when you turn on the t.v. all you hear about is all the bad things like another bombing, more lives lost, another military/civilian casualty. what you DON'T hear about is the bravery that our servicemen and women show everyday and the lives we have changed for the better over there. the people who have new hope because we are there trying our very best to give them the same hope we have here in the united states. i hear stories about death and ambushes and murder. then i hear stories of children running to greet american soldiers and marines calling them heros and giving them hugs. this is what keeps us going.

this and people like you
thank you

So because you ask somebody who is in the military, you assume everyone in the military has the same opinion?

I don't think so.

We should have never started this war in the first place. Bush had an agenda and his plan has failed miserably. It's sad but to say that those soldiers are there for an unjust cause but that is what many Americans believe.

In this country you can't stop people from expressing their opinion or their opposition to the actions of its government.

At least not yet anyway.

From Stars & Stripes:

WASHINGTON — Seventy-two percent of troops on the ground in Iraq think U.S. military forces should get out of the country within a year, according to a Zogby poll released Tuesday.

The survey of 944 troops, conducted in Iraq between Jan. 18 and Feb. 14, said that only 23 percent of servicemembers thought U.S. forces should stay “as long as they are needed.”

Of the 72 percent, 22 percent said troops should leave within the next six months, and 29 percent said they should withdraw “immediately.” Twenty-one percent said the U.S. military presence should end within a year; 5 percent weren’t sure.

The poll also shows that 42 percent of the troops surveyed are unsure of their mission in Iraq, and that 85 percent believe a major reason they were sent into war was “to retaliate for Saddam’s role in the Sept. 11 attacks.” Ninety-three percent said finding and destroying weapons of mass destruction is not a reason for the ongoing military action.

And, By Robert Hodierne, Military Times
WASHINGTON — The American military, once a staunch supporter of President Bush and the Iraq war, has grown increasingly pessimistic about chances for victory.
For the first time, more troops disapprove of the president's handling of the war than approve of it, according to the 2006 Military Times Poll.

On August 2, 1990, Iraqi troops rolled across the border into neighboring Kuwait. The invasion prompted outrage and action from the White House where Iraq's President Saddam Hussein was reviled as a modern day Hitler, potentially more dangerous by virtue of his nuclear weapons ambitions. But Washington's view had not always been so negative....

So many other things: The US flew nearly $12bn in shrink-wrapped $100 bills into Iraq, then distributed the cash with no proper control over who was receiving it and how it was being spent-the strangest thing here is that it included the billions the Us Coalition took over from the "corrupt" Oil for food UN "scandal....

Oh yes lets do that!
Can't we all just get along?
I mean because we can go to a 7/11 or yardbirds shopping 24/7 we must be doing something glorious in Iraq.
What and the hell was the mission in Iraq? Just tell us what it is today as I seem tyo keep forgetting what was it yesterday andthe day before?
What was their mission? Was it to kill anyone who got in our way?
OK I supoort killing people who do not have the guts to kill their own leaders.
Is that todays mission?
Damn near 1 million Iraquis have died, twice that number maimed wounded lost out on eduction for 16 years, poor food and lack of medical attention have a country almost completley destroyed, succeeded in getting three differing political factions and two major religous factions killing each other for the crumbs we have left them.
Was that our mission?
That to this day they only have a from of democracy that we tell them they can have and must do as we say, was that our mission?
Was the mission to place every facet of Iraqui economic daily and future lives in the hands of US Corporations and Federal Bureacratic office holders.
Ok I support making it easier for them to have economic freedom as my mission.
We completly destroyed a civilization that dated back thousands of years , completly destroyed any semblence of an Iraqui nation and its infrastructuree and now we should all join together in singing in Harmonious Praise," thank you Lord, and thank the men who accomplished this in your name."
What the Hell is tomorrows mission, support the troops in Somalia, Indonesia Phillipines, or wherver they can find a war to fight in?
OK I support all my military efforts as set forth by whomever is ruling this country and to hell with the whys and understand only the military knows why we went to war in first place.
Our mission is just support the military and the people who are in it as they know what is best for my nations future.

You,re right. As someone who has been to Iraq, twice, I feel the anti-war crowd is anti-troop as well even though they say they're not. I feel we are on a downward spiral for it to be "p.c." to spit on the troops.
