Sleep apnea causes some people to stop breathing in their sleep, but I'm not sure if this is the problem. I'd go visit your doctor, and if he can diagnose the problem, visit a sleep specialist. They will monitor you for a night and try to find the root of the sleeping problem.

u have a syndrome known as obstructive sleep apnoea, this is mainly seen in ppl who r obese , alcohlics and have high blood pressure . also noticed in many diabetics . such ppl usually snore a lot . u must get help because if the breathing is stopped for a long time it can turn out to be fatal .The things that cause sleep apnoea do so by increasing the normal narrowing of the throat during sleep. Anything that makes the throat narrower to start with (for example enlarged tonsils or a set-back lower jaw) means that it is easy for the throat to close off a bit more and block the airway. A partially blocked nose generates lower pressures in the throat whilst taking a breath in, which tends to suck the walls of the throat together. Probably the most important factor is being overweight with a big neck. Extra fat in the neck squashes the throat from outside, particularly when the throat muscles become floppier with sleep. The only really effective treatment currently used for bad sleep apnoea is nasal continuous CPAP machine with a £2 coin for scale positive airway pressure (nasal CPAP). Because the throat is collapsing, it can be held open by slightly pressurised air. To deliver this air a mask is worn during sleep just over the nose and connected to a little quiet pump beside the bed. Breathing is then able to return to normal during sleep with the air gently blowing through the nose, holding open the throat. The response is usually dramatic with greatly improved sleep and disappearance of the daytime sleepiness.

I am so sorry you are going through that. You have full blown Panic Disorder. I have it too. You will stop breathing at night, especially during a nightmare and I know your having them.
Secondly when you cant breath its because your getting too much oxygen rather than not enough and your lungs are already well expanded. The damn doctors at hospitals hand out inhaler's like candy for the wrong diagnosis. They only make you more hyper because of albuterals side effects and since we can safely assume you have panic disorder you will most definitely need to change your eating habits, sleeping habits and more importantly, your stress management habits.
Now you might want to talk to your regular MD, for medication for anxiety. Perhaps something to lower that blood pressures. Get on a stable health diet. Try to find the key distressing factors in your life and alter them.
Until you achieve these goals you will suffer countless painful scary panic attacks.
PS, when you get that cant breath feeling, breath into a paper bag for couple minutes. It increases the carbon dioxide levels in your blood so you don't get that whole body tingling feelings and will help lots.

i am not a doctor but the first two things that came to mind were asthma and sleep apnea. if your were my child, i would take you to a repiratory specialist and find out what's going on. i am certain that if i could not breath for any reason, my blood pressure would go up and i would certainly panic. stress can cause any kind of problem to worsen. hopefully you aren't upset about anything in your personal life. talk to your mom. show her what you wrote and show her this response.
