Plenty of decent apps on ZDnet, but first use the MSCONFIG tool to check if you are running too many programmes on start-up (Start menu - Run - type 'msconfig' - view items that start when Windows boots).
This can result in very slow performance, and getting rid of unneccesary items will speed things up noticeably.

Deleting temp files and cookiea gets you started as temp files and cookies take up resources and ultimately slow you down.
Go to http://www.ccleaner.com and download ccleaner.
This tools gets rid of all the temp files, cookies, and other unwanted stuff without going into the registry.

i would do a virus check spamware check, scan disk and defrag, and uninstall any programs you dont use,
anything free, there must be another reason, normally spyware init, have fun
