Hi, I bought a Panasonic minidv cleaning tape for my camcorder from an auction site (it came from Hongkong), the inside ribbon of the tape looks same as the normal recording tape !! Would it be same like this or have I been cheated by the seller?

The cleaning tape typically won't actually turn/move (i.e there isn't 1 hour worth of tape on it). It should basically just pull any loose electrons off the recording head.

My JVC MiniDV camcorder basically asks for a head cleaner when it needs one.. so if you put the tape in and play it for 10 seconds and it doesn't correct the problem I would assume it isn't a legitimate cleaning tape.

Hope that helps. Keep in mind that it helps to always use the same type of tape in your camcorder (Panasonic only). The mechanism is very sensitive.. so you just need to keep using the same tapes with the same head cleaner.

The ribbon does look very similar in a cleaning tape. If the tape itself is labeled as a cleaning tape, it should be real. Follow the directions and run it for a few seconds and see if it helps.

If you could compare the two types of tape with a microscope you would see the difference. The cleaning tape is totally different in surface texture.
