I woke up yesterday with very swollen lips, then they went down within a few hours. I had gone to the doctors and they said they just thought it was herpes, but then I woke up again this morning and they were very swollen again. Is there anything else that this could possibly be? Several of my friends already get cold sores and they don't think that this is what mine looks like.

It seems you have an allergy. Something is giving you allergy in the night time. maybe something you applied over the face, maybe something you ate the night previous, something like that. You have to find out by yourself by trial and error what;s the allergen.

Have you applied or ingested any substance you've not used before? There is an allergic reaction that is quite serious.
If it were herpes cold sore, you'd have a sore today.
have you been exposed to a lot of sun? Sun poisoning will do that as well.
Get seen again.

It is possible it could be an allergic reaction to something.

that happened to me once because I mixed two medications that could not be mixed...it was basically an allergic reaction
