If a tree falls over in a forest and there's nobody there does it make a noise?

No it keeps "stump" as there's no one to listen!

Of course it does. Sound is contractions & rarifactions of air which would occur. But noise is unwanted sound so if there was nobody there to receive the sound it would not be noise.
