Two possibilities:
1) The programme is not fully compatible with Vista. Try to find out if any patches are available on the vendor's website. If you did patch it properly ,remember that any cracks or pwds (if applicable) would be rendered useless.
2) Did you allow the software to "phone home"? I'd recommend blocking any pirated software from making any outgoing connections, except through your own network.

Yes! It is illegal. I would not advise you to use pirated softwares as they easily get infected with malwares and are prone to crashes. It is also not possible to get tech support. The developers are also losing a lot when you do this. Think how it feels when you slog and you find someone taking your work for their use. Vista is made quite rigid now. I don't think the pirated softwares will work. There are lot of applications still being developed for Vista which runs fine on Windows XP. Take your time before you can really install.
Hope this helps.

definite. opposite to prevalent perception, Vista isn't a "smart" OS. in reality, there particularly aren't any "smart" OSes obtainable. It performs an identical applications even as attempting to validate software that XP does. It is often used with no longer the adaptation between copied software and reliable, till for sure your key has already been used or is a nasty key.

It isn't illegal if the school will let you have or use a copy of this. If it requires a key code, then yes, it's illegal and it probably won't run on your home computer.
I have not tried this site, only looked at it, but you might be able to get a key code here:

It would depend on the licensing arrangements some allow software to be used on two machines on the understanding that you can't be in two places at the same time. Therefore one one license is in use at any time.
So in that case it may not qualify as pirated software, unless you're doing this without the license holders permission.

Technically it is illegal. But as far as actually running it. I really don't see why not. You just wouldn't be able to get various updates from Microsoft.

I don't see why not. It isn't TRULY legal, but if you have the product registration codes, Vista won't stop you.
