Well it is different for everyone but when I was on low doses of risperdal, Seroquel and Zyprexa I felt about the same except for the increased hunger drive the medicine gives you. You really have to be on a higher dose for a long time in order for it to take affect. Sometimes it even takes months to take full effect. So whatever decision you make be patient!

Be patient. It takes 6 to 8 weeks for the full effect of even "a few milligrams" of a drug to build up in your body enough that you begin to see some results.
By starting with a low dose, your doctor is then free to slowly increase the dosage until you both see the best results. All antipsychotics I am aware of (and I have been on many different ones), except for Neurontin, have a maximum dosage amount at which point they can poison the brain, so slow increments is much more favorable because it allows for tweeking for maximum effect.
Look at it this way: What have you got to lose vs. what you might gain?

It feels empty. After you are used to feeling so much, antipsychotics take it all away. You don't stop thinking, but things don't get under your skin as easily. It can be different for every person, but for me, it took the feeling out of life. The food I ate all tasted the same. I felt the same if somebody gave me a hug or slapped me in the face. If something was really hot or really cold, I couldn't tell the difference.
I'm not on that medication any more - it was obviously the wrong one. It only made me worse. But when they are necessary, antipsychotics are great.

Speak to your doctor, but yes, in general, an atypical would be helpful for those symptoms. I take Geodon for paranoid/anxious thinking and it helps a lot. But again, your doctor must make decisions based on your individual case. Side effects can be troublesome and you may need to try a few to find the one that works for you best. Good luck.

don't do it man, it's not worth it unless absolutely necessary, i was on 800 mgs of "Serequil" and mark my words that stuff makes it all worse, i had a bad temper, they kept giving me that stuff i kept seeing more and more stuff that i never saw before, it feels like you are numb, inside and out, you feel pain, you hurt, but your too sad to do anything about it, it regresses you in the end, slows down your thoughts, it's not healthy or natural, and the doctors act like they care, but they do not care, and they can only guess what happens in your head. good luck, hope you do the right thing.
