James - Then you are. Sort of. Not from your heart as if to God. But Jesus did say if we help those in need its the same as giving to God.

Oh, also its not a "giving to a fictional parent thing", its just responding appropriately to God's teachings on love.

I give 10% (tithe) to the church. I have seen this work in my own life. It still hurts to give 10% sometimes (financially) but GOD always takes care of me. Why is $20 nothing when we spend it at the store, but giving $20 at church seems to be difficult. Think about it.

Malachi 3:8-10
8- Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In Thithes and offerings.
9- Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation.
10-Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

I wasnt under the impression that a god would need to be reimbursed.

Charity, yes, all the time. I do the MS bike ride every year and donate money.

But give money to a fictional parent figure, no!

The Bible tells us to bring a tenth into Gods storehouse.

I pay my tithes every week to the Church.

No, my parents did not raise me to be a fool. When I give charity I give it to real people who need it. Not some group ripping off the ignorant by extorting them with threats of eternal torture so they can build expensive buildings and drive around in expensive cars.

No I create 100% new jobs. But lazy people don't really want them. They just cry, there ain't no jobs for them. I got lots of jobs for them, but they require them to work!
The path of least resistance for them is to depend on your charity. Thanks for supporting their dysfunction. I hope you feel good, cause that is the only reason to do it. Like smoking. Your Religions thrive when there are helpless pathetic people who have low self esteem. They train you to produce the pathetic.

Yes......and I've seen God's principle in this matter work in my own life. After all.....it's His money to begin with.....He's just allowing us to live on 90% of it.

I'd rather live on 90% of God's money rather than on 100% of my own.

I give to my church first, then to a charity.
