Women are told that they can have it all. They don't need men. It's all about getting "stuff" and keeping yourself on the quest for ever more money. When you foster that us versus them mentality, why would anyone see marriage and family as a team effort requiring both parties? She's no longer the keeper of the house, she's your competition in the job market. You are no longer the breadwinner, you are the sperm donor. Once you have served your function, you can be dismissed and replaced by her next boyfriend or daycare (just don't forget to send the support check though).

Jennifer you need to be a little more specific with your question although we "know" what you mean. There are thousands of books written on this subject and a reasonably intelligent person could write an essay on this topic in a matter of minutes. Most people will give you a 2-3 sentence answer, when to fully address the subject it would take a book.
My 2-3 sentences:
Families today tend to lack the father figures/role models that traditional families cherished. The problem seems to stem from the lack of a strong figure in families (particularly the father) to enforce the moral rules instill discipline and responsibility in the leaders of the future. This is a cycle that produces fewer and fewer Andy Griffith types.

hello
I believe families are disintergrating cause children no longer care for their parents or siblings.Everyone wants freedom, independence. , privacy. Youngsters trying to copy western culture. Even after the child is brought up so well, as soon as he gets married his wife changes his destiny
Maybe sometimes it is good for everyone and sometimes everyone suffers.
On the other hand if a daughter is brought up to respect elders, care for them, then she becomes an ideal daughter -in-law. She is loved by everyone cause she treats her in laws like her own family.
But sad to say nowadays girls being smart, educated think they need only the husband, and not his family.
They behave as though they have done a favour by marrying the boy. Eventually misunderstandings arguments quarrels follow, and one by one all members move away. In the long run the nuclear family is the loser but this is realised very late.
Even parents are treated badly. If they fall sick they have no one to take care of them. They depend on strangers for their needs. It is sad to see that children have become so insensitive. They do not realize that after some years their children will also do the same to them.

I think the start of it was when jobs were so hard to find and the land just wasn't enough to sustain large families any more. Use to be whole families worked together in the same plant or company, now once a person becomes of age to go out on their own there is no work and has to leave the area and sets his roots down elsewhere, generally taking a childhood sweetheart with him. My father had to move further north of his childhood home and when my 2 brothers graduated they enlisted in the military and have decided to raise their families in different states. My youngest sister met her husband while visiting me when my husband and I were stationed in NM and other than visits back east she remains out west. My own child has elected to stay in Germany after her husbands enlistment is up in April, raising their 3 children there. I think it is our economy that has caused the families to separate and become divided.

To begin with the "family" is not even given a chance to begin with. People shacking up, having kids out of wedlock. Splitting and doing it all over again. Even those that are married do not focus on the children anymore, it is all about the adults making money and buying stuff. Sending kids off to day care and buying them stuff. No one parents any more they all want to be "buds" Parents getting bored because no effort was given to the relationship go off and find a new honey and do it all over again. How are children ever going to know what a family is if they never really grow up in one?

We are trying to do what we see people in western countries are doing. Some of us call it women liberation and some say it is a step forward. We should not complain about families disintegrating, that is the price we have to pay for copying others like monkeys.I am sorry I should not insult monkeys.

I think JD is right on the mark. It sounds terrible, but the more options women have the more likely they are to leave a family situation.
Believe me - it's a good thing because the new freedom gets women out of relationships that are distructive, but the family is paying the price.

I don't think people connect anymore. Everyone, especially Americans, are too busy. Everyone is working and going in a million directions. We don't have family goals anymore. We have individual goals and personal aspirations.
I'm a total hypocrite in this area. I want allot of things for myself because my husband is a work-a-holic, he tries harder now to be home and with the kids, but he really is good at working. I want things for myself too and I want them all by myself. It's hard. We are so selfish.
