About 3 weeks ago i was at cheerleading practice and i fell completely on my ankle. Well it has been 3 weeks and my ankle is still pretty big I've iced elevated and havent walked on it. I can put weight on it but once i spot a ruch of pain goes up and down my leg. My dad said it is an upper ankle sprain but i atleast could start walking on it by now. So my question is im extremely worried that i completely otre my ligament and that im going to need surgery to repair it. HAs anyone ever had this happen and can someone tell me if its going to get better or stay bad.

Three weeks of swelling is too long; you may have broken it! If indeed it is a ligament tear, it needs to be repaired or it will never function correctly.

I am sorry to have to say it, but your dad is an idiot. Parents owe their children proper medical care and through laziness or stupidity he has neglected your health (this could possibly be criminal neglect). Shame on him; get your grandmother involved if she has any sway with him. You need medical care now.

If you can't stop the swelling with Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation (RICE) and Sodium Naproxin (aka Alleve) in a week, then you can't solve the problem on your own.

Three weeks of swelling is very bad. I just broke my ankel on super bowl sunday but they didnt see thebreak untill i went to an orthapedic on that wednesday after the super bowl. my dad thought i tore a ligement but i couldnt walk on it so when the orthapedic took a look at my x-rays she found the break.

see you have tiny bones in your ankel area. so its very hard to see a break expesially from all the swelling. yea mine was like the size of a baseball maybe even bigger.

My sugesstion would be to get an x-ray taken just in cause there is a break. When you get the x-ray done they can also find out if you have a torn ligament or any thing else that is ireagular. If you dont get an x-ray done you will not find what is going on with your ankel.

So please tell your dad to take you to an orthapedic to get an x-ray taken.

Oh and you dont need sugery to repair a torn ligament. it takes about 6 weeeks to heal and you have to use crutches.

It could be broken. Go for an x-ray and exam of the ankle.
