Stop braiding your daughter's hair every night, an occasional braiding it okay, but every night is causing too much damage. Also, instead of gel try using mousse. Gel has a high alcohol content and can make her hair even more dry and frizzy.
Try shampooing every other day, but still condition every day it may help get some of the moisture back.
It may be difficult to get your daughter to agree, but it would be good to get her hair trimmed so the damaged ends are removed.

There is not much you can do to undo damage that has been done, but I don't think that putting her hair into braids would have caused a whole lot of damage. Brushing can cause a lot of damage so be very careful when untangling the hair. Use a wide toothed comb and start at the ends working your way to the roots. Also use a very good conditioner with silicones, like Pantene, so that there are fewer tangles to get out. Gels are probably the best product to maintain curly hair. Good luck!

Its the gel, most gels have alcohol in them that can dry out curky hair. You might be able to repair the damage by giving her hot oil treatments and using moisturizing leave in conditoners. TO tame it there are products that help tame curls, there's a Garnier Fructis creme that's really good for curly hair. It comes in a squeeze bottle and smells really good. Braids wouldn't ruin the hair as long as its not braided too tight, it helps in keeping the hair from tangling. I braid my three year old daughter's hair at night and her hair is to the middle of her back. I also use a good detangler in her hair before I comb it.

Honestly I don't know why you keep your daughters hair that long. What is possible you can do to her hair but put them in braids? Honestly I think it is extremely ignorant you even try to keep her hair that long. Cut it. It doesnt need to be short but cut it so it is a couple of inches below the shoulders. And you should take her in every 4 to 6 weeks for a trim so that her hair can stay healthy. Your not doing her any favors by trying to grow her hair out.

you need to stop treating your daughter like a princess or barbie, leave her hair alone, and natural, you'll regret it in the future. Let her go outside and play in the mud! ive been doing that since i was 3 and still do it! (im 14 and have fabulous hair)
