m 18 years old and I have no idea why my this would be happening to me so I looked around on here for people who may have had the same problem and most answers says that the problem may be a minor gum disease of some sort and the best thing to do is to see a dentist right away. My question is how does a procedure like that go? they wont have to take my tooth out or anything will they?

In my assumption, you'd probably be given an antibiotic if it is an infection...just like if you were sick. If it's a minor gum disease, they may have you use an antiseptic rinse (mouthwash) to fight it off...I would think that depending on the looseness, they may pull it out if it's going to cause you problems. If it's not too loose and it doesn't bother you, they'll probably leave it alone. (And even if they decide to pull it they'll give you antibiotics anyway because they want to help prevent the hole/gums from getting infected once the tooth is gone.) I had a tooth pulled recently due to cavity problems, and my dentist gave me an anti and pain pills for the pain you feel after the tooth has been pulled...which isn't really all that bad. Hope this helps, and good luck!! =)

An infection is a SYMPTOM of a problem. In order to treat the problem, the infection has to be cleared first. More than likely an antibiotic will be prescribed. Once the infection is under control, your dentist can determine what is causing it and then treat it. Most dentists would prefer to hold onto a natural tooth, than to remove it. Extraction would be considered the last option in most cases(unless the tooth is "hopeless"). BTW . . what makes you think you have an infection? Do you have an abscess?

Nope, not necessarily, infact if u don't see a dentist u'll end up losing the tooth, A dentist would first drain the pus, if present, then give u an antibiotic in order to suppress the infection, perform a scaling to clean your teeth if required etc etc etc
