onions in a cool dry place with good ventilation , onion need to be keep dry , garlic is good in a fridge .the drier the better.

In a wood box, with a lid but not a hermetic one.
The wood prevents humidity, and the dark inside the box prevents garlic and onion from sprouting. This works until the stuff is whole. When you cut an onion the part of it that remains should be refrigerated. I put it in a small ziplock, so the smell doesn't diffuse in the fridge.

I came across a great new product , garlic cubes that are frozen , they stay in the freezer until you need them never going bad or transferring flavors . Not to sure about onions ,cool dry place ,in pantry I guess.

A nice dry place is where you should store them. I store them in the pantry above the washer machine.

I keep mine in a veggie bin in my office, which is really a breakfast nook that I took over. It's right off the kitchen, so they don't get much light and it's cooler than the kitchen.
