I'm going to be performing at a couple of schools & usually when I'm nervous, I won't be able to go up high. Anyone have tips for that, & general singing tips?

I don't agree with the above advice on "deep breaths"...breathing deeply while singing overextends the lungs and pushes the stomach out to far, making you feel TOO airy, adn you can lightheaded that way. Taking smaller breaths through your mouth with your lips closer together than usual will help keep your breathing regular for your performance. The lips trills were a good idea; and so is doing five note progressions saying "bal blah blah blah blah" for every note up and down. I'tll loosen your mouth out. Remember not to push to hard to project! It will not only make you tired and underventilated, but it doesn't show your voice well. Sing freely; the audience will work to listen to every ntoe.

First of all dont be nervous. Your audience will love you and the support your efforts!!!! Make sure you have great posture and that you take large relaxed deep breaths. Before you perform do lip trills if you know what those are (blowing air through your lips and humming a scale at the same time). This will really help you connect your breath to both you chest and head voice. Enjoy your performance and dont let nerves freeze your body up.

I have a lot of performance anxiety - vocally and on the piano - and I find the best thing for singing nerves is to imagine your air coming out in a continuous stream. Just imagine how a note would sound coming from a bow on a cello. It helps to connect your air with the sound.

I don't really know about singing, but if your teacher or whoever is in charge, put you up on that stage, they did it for a reason. You wouldn't be up there if you didn't have what it takes. Don't be nervous. It's not worth it. You'll be great.
