There is a limited time to harvest scallops.. Look below under Sea Fisheries and it will give you an idea of the time and because of the time I am sure the price of seafood changes much. At this time fish and seafood products are expensive all over the world. What was once considered not a good eating fish is now expensive.

Well, in the U.S., there are a lot of regulation on fishing, which pretty much limit the amount of fish to be caught. If the fisherman had no rules to follow, they would be bringing in fish by the tons. This would increase supply and I doubt that demand would raise much. If you know about economics, then you know that this would decrease the price.
You also have to take into consideration the time of the year.
We are definately not over-fishing, there is way too much water and there are way too many fish for this to be possible.

Cheer up mate..I'm spending the winter in Florida and seafood is expensive here too...21.00 US a pound for stone crab...mussells more reasonable but fresh fish costs a lot here too...let's face it, I think we've over-fished the oceans and from now on it's all going to be expensive. Farmed salmon is cheaper but tastes it too..ah well, Happy Hearts Day!!

Cause I think that it is not easily available there with its cold weather even if it is surrounded by sea but fish live and reproduce mainly in warm water which U.K has not got. It becomes difficult to fish, so the price also becomes difficult.
And I think that U.K has to import much and then of course the price will be quite expensive like that of ur King Scallops.

Again, it's a simple case of rip off Britain. It's self perpetuating. The sooner the people of our county stop paying ridiculous prices for houses etc. the better of everyone will be and the extremes of wealth will flatten out. But because the people at the top of the money tree don't want that to happen, it won't!

I know what you mean. I live in a fishing town and the prices are really high. I don't often buy fresh fish. My pair of hunters go fishing down at the harbour when the weather is good and bring back cod and makerel.

Rip Off Britain indeed!!! God knows why its so expensive when we are an island- although to be fair I expect you got fabulous diver caught scallops and as they are labour intensive to harvest by hand that would be reflected in the price! I bet they were delicious though!!

noting that a very large amount of the sea food sold in Spain, Portugal and Italy [where it is cheap] is actually caught off the UK and transported to those countries goes to proves once again that the 'rip off' mental view people at the top have in the UK is still strong

I think it's because we've over-fished the seas so much that our fishermen have to venture out further to catch fish hence bumping the price up.
