well my hubby and i don't buy gifts persay, we view this day as a day to go out of the way to do something special for one another! i am making one of his favorites for dinner, and he is coming home for lunch and making one of my favs! we don't buy eachother jewelry, or expensive gifts. i think it is a little too commercial!

hello Ali
i wanna just tell u something , the love flower is a very weak flower , u need to do many things to keep the spark between u and ur beloved . MONEY is only a currency , a papper u can exchange with anything , BUYING expensive things means that u appretiate her , and all ur effort will b only 4 her , but TAKE CARE as girls and wives like the expensive gifts , they also like more the love words , creative love words , respect , and other times only a romantic cheap gift is required
Allah bless u

Depends dude. Sometimes spending money on others gives a kind of gratification. Like dropping a coin in a beggar's bowl. Expensive gift..depends, how much your pocket allows...going overboard has two disadvantages - 1. You've a big hole in ur pocket
2. You increase expectations!

u dont have to be spending 100's of $$s, but its definately the way people have been socialized, so people expect to get something, something more than some virtuous philosophy.. but i do agree with you..
