Adam = Red earth
Abel = Meadow
Cain = Acquisition
Seth = Appointed
Noah = Consolation
Abraham = Father of a Multitude
David = Beloved
Daniel = God is Judge
Jesus = God saves
Peter = Rock
Paul = Little
John = God is Gracious
Satan = Accuser
As a general rule, Hebrew parents usually observed their new born for a few months and then (based on what they observed) gave their children a name.
