If a tree falls in the forest, does anybody hear?

They are small, blend in with their surroundings, are generally quiet and unless you look for them you usually don't see them.

Birds are always around, you don't see them when you're not there - or not looking for them.

They are in other places too - but nobody is there to see them - leading to the impression that they suddenly show up when someone comes near.

The birds are probably wondering the same sort of thing - why do people always show up when we're near.
