"As a Christian I am responsible to carry out the Great Commission. This is to reach, teach, and baptize those who are lost. I am told to do so in Matthew 28:18-20. These were probably the last words of Jesus Christ while HE was on Earth. This overrides any rights that anyone should have."

It is the last line "This overrides any rights that anyone should have." that bothers me, even scares me a little.

As a Christian, it doesn't seem to go with the verse. I don't understand it, so if it isn't written in the bible it is added to the word.

And it may be right for someone in their understanding (every mind is different) but not for mine. It is too vague. But adding to the word does confuse people about Christianity.

Overrides what rights? Is my question.

Jesus Word is Authority & Truth. Gods understanding is above human understanding. God's Truth overrides my personal truth that may be contrare to God's Truth.

Gods Truth is the Word of God, is the Holy Bible, is the Spirit of Truth.

Obviously, that Christian either forgot (or was never told) the first words of Matthew 28; "Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee..Then Jesus came to them and said.." Jesus meant his words for his disciples, not for some silly goof reading the story 2,000 years later. And shame on the preacher who made that poor person believe otherwise, and shame on the individual who actually thinks they are one of the 11 disciples.

Aside from believing the rest of us have no rights, and the constant harassment (which is akin to COVETING), that's one of the problems that I have with many Christians. They don't read the Bible. They blast out a quote or two that they themselves heard or read somewhere, but they don't even understand the quote they are using. You come across Christians who demand a 10 commandments monument, yet 4 out of 5 of them can't recite more than 3 of those commandments. They search the world far and wide to make one a proselyte, yet make them twice a child of Hell as themselves.

Probably.

However, that is a quotation from ONE Christian and shouldn't be considered the opinion of ALL Christians. Christianity is a great belief system when it's practiced according to the teachings of Jesus and when its practitioners follow Jesus's example.

Jesus never spoke of overriding anyone's rights. Instead He said, Render unto God what is God's and unto Caesar what is Caesar's. Meaning, follow God's law and also observe secular law. We're fortunate in the US because of the privileges granted us by the Bill of Rights, including freedom of religion.

That is a bit frightening. The sad part is that this author seems to have forgotten that according to Christianity - God has given humans free will to chose as they like. It seems that this adherent has just decided that in order to 'save' everyone they must continually strip away rights until we follow like lobotomized sheep.

I have problems with Christianity from a historical perspective and also the way they read the 'prophecies' in the OT. There are a lot of things that don't set right with me in the realm of Christianity and that is why I left.

Do I have a problem with Christianity? No, not like that. My husband is Christian. It bothers me because I think he has bought into some untruths, but he has the right to practice what he believes - the right God gave him. And no, he in no way shape or form practices taking away my rights to get me to convert.

Many are indeed deceived by many shall come... to DECEIVE.

I guess "such like" haven't (yet) heard there's a difference between "ye" and "you",
http://www.godshew.org/YeYou.htm

or that God is a "Spirit" (not a Ghost) and
2/3 = 0.666 ...to infinity of nothing,
is what doublemindead folk get,

or great is the least of great greater greatest,
http://www.godshew.org/GodShew.htm#Greatest

or only what's greatest of three things never faileth.
http://www.godshew.org/Best.htm

Not to mention
"Jesus" was "made under the law": Galatians 4:4 and
"Christ" is "the end of the law": Romans 10:4, and
peace with God is "through J -> C" ends with "Christ";
http://www.godshew.org/through.htm

And to wit: that God was in "Christ" reconciling the world
http://www.godshew.org/Reconciliation.htm

And "ye" do "err" folk are not under the law, but under grace.

Not to mention the difference between "spake" and "spoke" in Hebrews 1 is the difference between time past and last days; And last days(plural) ended with Y2K failed to end such badly.

Not to mention it's neither time past nor last days now,
but the last "day": the "third day" is also the seventh day.

Not to mention come out from among THEM, since "no escape" sort of "destruction" is what happens to "them" folk: 1Thes 5:3.

Not to mention "which things are an allegory": Galatians 4

"And JESUS came and SPAKE unto THEM, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go YE therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy GHOST: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded YOU: and, lo, I am with YOU alway, [even] unto the end of the world. Amen." (Mt 28:18-20)

A true Christ-ian is focused on Christ is the end of the law.
False christains are focused on J via the law of life in CJ:
the second law is "like unto the first" law in Mt 22:36-40;
Not knowing that eternal life is "through J->C", not C->J.
CJ is mirrorly the reverse of JC. CJ is not in four gospels.
JC is the only foundation laid we should build anything on.

The GRACE of our Lord "Jesus Christ" with you all. Amen.

Zeroed in on that one answer among ALL the others, did you? You were just looking for something to justify your rage. That's what all these interestingly passive/aggressive questions are for---to create fodder. I grew up with just this kind of passive/aggresive atheist father. I recognize this. It's a sickness. Why can't you just believe what you want and let it go at that? It's what the vast majority of Christians do. Sure, you'll get a J.W. at your door from time to time or a Mormon teenager and it's irritating. Guess what, it's irritating to other Christians too!

Yes, it does scare me a little especially "This overrides any rights that anyone should have".

People have used that reasoning to put their thoughts on a pedestal, and, to do all sorts of horrible crap to others who don't share the same thoughts (religious and non).

Sounds to me like he is a wannabe preacher, I have been a catholic for more than 60 years and no Christian has ever been commissioned by "God" including preachers to teach or baptize anyone, that was a statement made by Jesus not God himself, we all have a commission, and that is to respect, and love one anothers privacy, to push ones belief on another in my view is simply disrespectful.

As a christian, it scares me too. God gave us all free will. And it makes a bad case for Christians everywhere. not many will be reached, if we use this approach. even less will be taught, if we do not acknowledge God given free will.

To many calling themselves Christians follow man's example. and not Jesus' example. when in fact if they want to be teachers then they should first be taught. Please don't hold one person's mistake against Christianity.

Matthew 7:15
Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

Matthew 24:11
And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.

Go in peace. God Bless you and your family.

Christ also talks about the Pharisees who go out and convert someone, bind him with their own beliefs and turn them into twice the son of hell that they are. We are commissioned to teach Christ and Him crucified. We are not to teach doctrine as if that is the path to salvation.
