Hi! As you probably know, my cat is supposed to have her kittens sometime within this week. Well, she started meowing (not a mean meow) when I was near her. It was like she was missing something kind of meow. After she meowed, I meowed, then she meowed again, and it kept on going on for about 2 min. Then I stopped and she still meowed. Was she having a contraction? Or was she going into labor? Thanks for all yur help! Happy Valentine's Day! :-)

P.S I onley meowed twice but she kept going on it. I wasn't bothering her because she wanted me to be there because when I left she would follow me so I just stayed with her.

You are only stressing the cat more. She needs to stay calm and be in a quiet and private space with no interruptions. She will be fine.
Do you realize that for every 1 person born, there are 7 puppies and kittens
born? At best, 1 will find a forever home.
And don't forget, that every "Free-to-good-home" litter takes homes away
from animals already at the shelter.

STOP letting your pets; or your friends, relatives or co-workers pets
contribute to the problem.
If you love animals, it is NOT ENOUGH to merely say "My pets are fixed".
Vow to educate and enable others to fix their pets too.
Spaying just 1 female dog or cat, will prevent 6 others from ending up in a
shelter the following year.
Please be part of the solution, NOT the problem!
Thank you. ^..^

Well, all cats are going to "meow" now and then, usually when they want something from us. But, it's very likely that--yes, she is starting to go into labor, and maybe she hasn't picked out a place to deliver these kids yet. You might help her out by providing a blanket (or something she likes) in one or two different places that she prefers to lie. Don't be surprised if she doesn't use whatever you set up. Mommy cats will have their babies wherever they feel the most comfortable. Mine felt she needed to deliver a litter behind the TV. And, if you go and move them, don't be surprised if she doesn't just take them right back to where she had them--mine did. Good luck.

For heaven's sake, leave the poor cat alone and let her have her kittens already. She knows how. Just give her a nice soft place to do it and let her go. Cats don't like to be bothered when they're having kittens, and you're sitting there meowing at her. Maybe she's telling you "get me fixed when this is over so I don't have to do this again." Or maybe she's hungry, thirsty, irritated or just bored.

I will tell you key ways to know when they are about to have the kits. They will start with pulling the hair from the nipples, they start "nesting" looking for a place to have the babies. I suggest you get a big clean box, put in some soft clen sheets or towels (old ones of course) in the box and introduce her to it. Mine didn't meow. My sheeba wanted me with her cause her first litter was diffacult. I actually had 2 of my babies born in my lap :-). If she's sticking real close to you that would tell me she's getting close. KEEP an eye on her. Also she'll look like she's about to pop. Good luck and watch out for those breech babies the ones that are born butt first as you will need to call you vet in that case so he/she can guide you on how to help the breeched baby. I had one cat all 4 of her babies was born breeched. Just keep a close eye on her see if her hairs been pulled from her nipples yet. Good luck with the sweet miracle of birthing kit's!! :-)

She is probably getting ready to have them. They will meow softly with the contractions and may even grunt or moan like. She will get really restless not being able to get comfortable. She will eventually start making a bed kneading and making sure it is soft and warm Make sure you have a place that she feels safe to have them. A box with a towel or blanket would be best and since she obviously is feeling safe with you being around her if she needs help she will let you know, and let you help.

please spay you cat after this, there is already a cat overpopulation problem. since I've never owned an intact cat (I'm a responsible cat owner) i can only say that cats like to have a choice of nesting sights 2 is their preference and soon after birth the mother will instinctively want to move the litter to a safer( in her mind) location hence the 2 nest sites apparently this makes the mother cat less anxious.
got to love what info one can pick up from the discovery channel.

she is letting you know that she is ready to have her kittens, or take a real close look at her rear and see if a tiny tail is sticking out if it's there you need to help her birth that kitten right away, it will not be alive then put her in a box and let her have the rest of the kittens, this is the way it happened with my female.
