Valentines day is not a Christian event, lol...but non-Christians can celebrate what they choose and really, they do not have to give a reason to anyone.

Christmas was NOT when Jesus was born. Jesus was born in the summer. Do you know of sheepherders that herd their sheep in the winter? Neither do I. Hence Jesus was born in the summer.
Christmas was a Pagan holiday celebrated by the Romans for the Pagan god Mithras. December 25th is HIS birthday and Christmas began to be celebrated at Constantines order when Constantine converted to Christianity and ordered Christianity to become the official religion of the country.
As for why those other holidays are celebrated....
Valentines day, do you remember cupid? Cupid is this cute little Pagan god with a bow and arrow that went around shooting people with it to fall in love. Do you, or do you not, see his image EVERYWHERE on Valentines day?
Valentines Day is Pagan too. It was just twisted by the Christian religion like all the other holidays were.
Oh but then... what about Easter? Well, lets look at this shall we? Thats the Pagan holiday of Oester celebrated for the turning of the seasons. Again, perverted and twisted by Christianity.
Every single one of those holidays are Pagan in origin and have existed long long before Christianity twisted them to suit its own purposes.
Now that we've established that there is a reason for non-Christians to celebrate those dates....
Atheists celebrate them for fun. To an Atheist the holidays are about family and loved ones. Its the one time of year that everyone has off, everyone can be together, and everyone can enjoy.
You really need to do proper research instead of making false claims. The only person you have to blame for your ignorance is yourself and you should know better.
YOU are just in denial because you don't like the answers you're getting.
Edit: The chocolate egg is secular, the Christmas tree is actually the Yule tree and is pagan, fireworks are Chinese. So what? They're all Pagan or secular.

Because these are also cultural holidays as well as religious. Christmas is a great time to be with family. Easter can be the same, even if you don't believe the religious aspects. Valentines Day is for lovers - I don't even remember seeing anything about a Valentine's Day mass back when I was a kid in catholic school, but to be honest, I didn't pay much attention to it.
And you could easily extend this question to, "Why do christians celebrate pagan holidays?", since the early church co-opted a pagan winter solstice celebration when they decided to plunk their christmas holiday in December. Easter, too - take a look at how the date for Easter is determined - it's directly tied to the date of the full moon, a time that Pagans celebrated.

I think that if you do some research on Valentines Day, Easter and Christmas, you will find that they were actually pagan holidays that Christians adopted. They then infused the pagan holidays with Christian traditions, but many of the Pagan traditions remain to this day. On Christmas you bring a tree from the outdoors into your house, and surround it with presents, that is nature worship and has nothing at all to do with the birth of Jesus.
On Easter you hide eggs that were brought from a rabbit. Rabbits just happen to be the pagan form of fertility, and the easter holiday just happens to fall on a Pagan holiday celebrating spring and fertility. Does anyone really celebrate Saint Valentine on ST Valentines day, or is it really a secular holiday spent buying cards and flowers for your girlfriend boyfriend etc....
The real question should be, why do Christians celebrate pagan holidays?

It is called tradition.
Most Atheists do not Celebrate Easter with church going or rememberance of a resurrection.
And if you want to consider the highly commercialized corporate profits weilding machines of Valentine's Day and Christmas religious holidays then be my guest.
Christmas is originaly the celebration of the persian son of thier Almighty god (Ahzura Mazda), Mithras. This was celebrated by the Persians, Ancient Egyptians, and Pagan Romans. It did not become a Christian holiday until 324 when Constantine the great declared christianity the State Religion of the Roman Empire.
And Valentine's Day. Well anyone with a girlfriend, mother, or wife, celebrates it because they have too.
Ciao

Easter is just a day for the Easter Bunny to come, not about Jesus' Resurrection. Christmas is not about Jesus' birth, it's about Santa giving gifts to kids.
To Country_girl- Easter eggs and all the things that kids get and use on Easter were just added, they do not mean anything!!

Christmas originated as a Pagan Holiday, which was later adopted by the Christians as the Birthday of Jesus, which it isn't. And besides that most see Christmas as Santa bringing gifts to good little girls and boys.
Valentine's Day is NOT a Christian Holiday, period.
And as for Easter, it's seen by most as the Easter Bunny hiding eggs and baskets full of candy.

Do you expect non-christians to stand around and be quiet while the christians celebrate their holidays?
Christmas, Valentine's Day, Easter, and Halloween are big holidays. Christmas and Easter usually have stores closing and people not going to work. People will observe these times how they wish. Some will use it for religious purposes and some will use it for celebration purposes. I would say that a large number of people in the US do not observe these holidays as religious anymore. The same as christians not observing them as pagan (which you can trace their history back to).

So what does it matter when others celebrate them? I'm Turkish and we celebrate v-day and the new year. We dont celebrate easter. We celebrate v-day cos it is nothing with cristian events. we celebrate new year cos we go in a new year not because it is Christmas or we want to be like Cristians.
We have some national festivities in Turkiye and one of them is a festivity for children in 23 April, but whole countries' children come to Turkiye and celebrate it. So should we say "they cant celebrate it because they are not turkish?"
We should stop being a religionist and distinctioner. To believe in the God and being in favour of goodness, so what does create the difference between people? Praying much more in Friday? or in Saturday? or in Sunday? Or never? I think we are all the same.

Because Valentines, Easter, and Christmas were originally Pagan holidays that were hijacked by Christians to make the conversion of the Pagans easier. And everyone loves a party.

You mean events like Valentines Day. I don't attach any religious significance to it myself. It is just a day of love. I see nothing wrong with having a day of love. I think it is kind of nice. If you have some objections state them. I would celebrate whether it was Christian or Pagan holiday. Why do Christians celebrate Halloween? Most of you do. I love celebrating Halloween and so do most Christians. It damn well ain't a Christian holiday. When are you Christians going to take over Halloween and make it a Christian holiday? God Bless, Love and Kisses, Happy Valentines Day
