Hello, my kitty was neutered on Monday. I know it is only Wednesday, but he seems "sad" could he be in pain? Where he used to purr ALL THE TIME, he isn't doing it at all now. He plays a little, but generally he sits there and stares at us with those "sad" eyes.

I'm also wondering: What does he feel? Is he "angry" at us? Does he have a clue what was done?

Thanks.

He probably knows all right. And he's probably still reacting to the surgery too. He's not really angry at you, but he may be in some pain from the incision. He should start recoverring soon. If not, and if the incision looks inflamed, take him back to the vet.

But right now I would say he's just feeling a little icky.

my kitty was neutered too, however for medical reasons as its more a whole sex change he had terrible bladder problems, crystallized urine etc.. so I explained to him it was for this purpose and that he will be much better off now and he changed to a happy bundle of fur. Do you talk to your feline you should and explain to him why this op. had to be done. also my baby has been through quite an ordeal with this occurrence then the major 3hour op. then a week from the op. he picked up a virus from his system being run down and all unhappiness all over again, just recovering from this now.
hope I helped?

We don't know what they feel, but I assure you, he does not understand what was done and he can't make the intellectual leap to blame you for it. It's possible he feels spacey still from the anesthesia -- a few individuals may take days to completely recover. And since he's potentially in a hormonal upheaval he may be reacting to that, and will return to normal after he restabilizes. "Normal" for him may be a little bit less aggressively affectionate when he is neutered; but overall, this slight change is worth it for his long term happiness. Don't feel guilty!

How old is your kitten? Have you kept his incision cleaned? Made sure that there is no infection? If he is acting mopy or lethargic then you might need to take him to the vet. Any change in behavior can be a cause for concern.. Just to rule anything out it is better to be safe than sorry.

It will take a few days. It took 5 days before my cat was back to his normal self.

neuterig of a male cat is very inavasive...they don't even need to sew them up afterwards. Did you get him pain medicine though?? He could be hurting, I would talk to your vet. DON"T GIVE HIM IBUPROFIN!! It is toxic to cats!! I accidently poisioned my kitty that way :(

If he's eating and using a litter tray he's probably ok. Have you seen him groom yet? Grooming is a good sign.

Ask your vet and make sure that he is ok.

He will come around and be himself! Give him time.
