every now and then my cat has a truelt mental moment. she growels hisses, is very nasty and attacks things that simply are not there. the reason i think it may be my dead rat coming back to haunt her is that when having these moments she always runs into the room i used to keep him and attacks the back of the sofa where he used to run. could this be a possibility? i also wondered if it could be the fact that she lost her eye (she used to be a stray) and wondered if this may be effecting her sight in the remaining eye - shes seing dots or something. or is it just simply normal? please tell me any info, little or small. thanks

Cats have better senses than humans. When you get home form work and they are at the door, it's not because they are psychic, but they can tell the difference between your car and other peoples.

In this case when a cat seems to be staring at something or goes mental it's usually due to them hearing something you cannot hear in the human audio range.

In your case the missing eye may also be contributing to the acting up, but was she like this before your pet rat died?

The safest thing is to take her to the vet and have blood work done, as she used to be a stray she may have been infected with Cat AIDS or leukaemia or any other number of ailments that are affecting her, best to be safe and check it out.

It could just be old age if she is an old cat, as cats go senile as well as people.

People like to romance about their cats (me included) and I do hope she is just chasing the ghost of your rat, and your little darling is fine and healthy

Best of luck to you both

I agree that it is probably her eye, but to be honest my husband and I are pretty sure our place is haunted. Too many little things not related to the cats have happened at this point. My cats some times bristle and run like they are being chased by something scary - not play. It wouldn't surprise me if it had to to with our ghosty. Anything is possible - even the ghost of a rat I suppose.

This could be a variety of things

a) Your cat has the sixth sense

b) She has a moment where she can smell the scent of your rat and this is why she runs and attacks the sofa

c) Your cat really is crazy

d) the eyesight thing really is a problem, why not take her to the vets and see if there is anything obstructing the sight of your cat in it's good eye

OR

e) Depending on the age of your cat maybe it is cenile

just cos you can't see anything doesn't mean the cats chasing a ghost. his eyesight is better than yours even with one eye. maybe its insects he sees as for having a mad turn in the room where the rat lived it's simply because he can still smell the rat.

I reckon cats do see ghosts - mine have mental moments when they hide from nothing or look terrified for no reason. Of course they could just be looking to see if they can get the sympathy vote and con another meal out of me!

She probably misses the rat. I'd take her to the vet anyhoo, in case it's the eye, but animals freak out when their companions die, just like any other species.

i think that it is due to the loss of her eye, her perception will be hindered. She could be having problems with her existing eye. take her to the vet if she is having problems moving around the house.
