Hello all, I'm moving to Brunei in August for two years on contract and my problem is I have tattoo's on my fore arms, they can be covered with a long sleeve shirt but I was wondering whether it is illegal to show tattoo's in public in Brunei?? As I don't want to constantly wear long sleeve shirts in a hot country! The tattoo's are not derogatory or anything, just usual tattoo's. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I know how strict this country can be! Many thanks in advamce!

Hey Adam...I live in Brunei - if you're a contractor, I'm guessing you're moving to BSP in Seria? Panic not - Brunei is really not very conservative (definitely not strict!), and you will have no problems with tattoos at all. There's a big expat community here and there are certainly people with tattoos, both male and female. Although yes, it's a Muslim country, the people of Brunei are very easy going, and unless you really flout convention (beer in the street, overtly sexual behaviour) nobody's going to blink an eyelid. Incidentally, as a non-Muslim over the age of 17, you can bring in two bottles of liquor or wine, and 12 cans of beer every time you enter the country - and it's not far to Sarawak (about an hour's drive, all in) where you can buy booze just over the border - you will no doubt become accustomed to the nightlife of Miri when you get here. Feel free to email me if you need any information.

Can't imagine what Kat got up to to get "looked at funny"...lol

Haha you're so closed minded that is humorous. Having a tattoo is like styling your hair or portray your nails. that is changing your physique to look extra appealing to your self or others...to experience stable approximately your self and to make you have character. in case you needed to abolish something to do with making a guy or woman 'different' then why do no longer you in basic terms get all people's hair shaved off and all of us placed on same bin bags. Tattoos would seem well-known to youthful generations purely cos that is now extra socially appropriate and extra people do no longer affiliate it with hooligans or conflict veterans or 'risky kinds' (which you of course do too... Christ, get a grip and don't be so previous formed) anymore. some people get tattoos to symbolise their love for a ignored kin member...to tutor they're prepared tochange a think approximately their physique in reminiscence to that guy or woman. i think of if all of us is prepared to showtheir love with the aid of this then letthem be as that's the precise opposite of the style you think of tattooed all people is 'criminals'. I challenge you to no longer purchase any outfits that represents your character, pursuits, accepted colorations etc besides as shave your head, no longer placed on make up or purchase branded footwear etc. See how boring your existence would be.

Tattoos are generally frowned upon in Brunei as it is a very conservative society, but it is not illegal.

As Brunei is a Muslim country, and Muslims aren't allowed to have tattoos done, you may just stand out in a crowd. But there's nothing illegal about it I'm quite sure.
