Just a note about competition then and now. I believe the competition today is far greater than when Jack played. Now we have players coming out of the woodwork, coming from Asia, NZ and Oz in greater numbers, South Africans galore. Players train for this from a much earlier age and the lure of big money has brought far more players into the game.
So I think Tiger is the player of this age, Jack, the player of his. I'd be proud to carry either bag.

You can tell there are 'current day fans only ' posting here...golf equipment has moved light years ahead of what Jack had to play with, and Jack played when there were big time players that DIDNT CHOKE WHEN IT CAME TO CRUNCH TIME...as evidenced by how many times tiger has won tournaments from behind...look at the list of players from Jacks day, they are all accomplished hall of famers...Sam Snead whose total tour wins tiger is behind by about 30, Arnold Palmer...and others... Tiger gets a lead or close and most players fold... Jack had something like 18 major wins and about that many seconds... playing small wooden head drivers with phenolic inserts and far inferior balls...Byron Nelson won 11 REAL TOURNAMENTS IN A ROW not just ok I lost in match play or overseas...todays statistics are made to improve the image of the game or raise the players appearance to a level that only the old school players really played to...Tiger himself recognizes that he wont have a real 11 tournament win streak and has SAID SO...the people that tell you Tiger is the greatest of all time are probably the same ones that tell you MJ is the greatest bb player of all time because he won 6 titles...(versus 11 in 13 years (Big Bill)during a time when black players were ridiculed and couldnt eat and room with white ones) I cannot blame them for all they know is what ESPN shows them on highlights...Tiger will get all of the records if he stays healthy, and before you go pooh poohing...I am a Tiger fan...but for right now...Jack has the records, and played in a time where there was way better competition, guys that werent scared of him...

Tiger definitley. Just look at he competition nowadays. When Jack was winning, the tour was limited to American Golfers only. Now the PGA Tour is a world tour and competition is the best ever. Tiger is more dominant and a better spokesman too.

At the moment, it's Jack but Tiger's in his prime right now so that will change in a couple years.

would ahve to go to Jack, myself, yes Tiger is ahead of the game today, but thanks to major technical advances alot players are ahead of the game. Jack played when there were tech advances, and the courses were a bit tougher, where the main game was to stick in the fairway. Now people just long bomb it and go from there. There is a great article in this month's golf digest with Jack in it...

Tiger...now adays they make everyones clubs the same and balls the same and there reason for it was to make sure guys like jack didnt come around to kill everyone. well tiger does it with the same equiptment as everyone else, and golf is more popular and there are better players out there than there was, and more of them. tiger still owns everyone. both in their prime...or tiger now and jack in his prime, tiger would make him look like a high school golfer.
